The Urban Center seeks to influence and shape a new generation of young and passionate leaders, who will be capable of taking responsibility for making a real difference to the situation in Moldova.
Meeting face to face with victims of human trafficking, BOL realized that the nightmare these people have faced in their lives could happen again if someone will not give them a helping hand. That’s why, in March 2009, BOL established a center for victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation. The name ‘House of Change’ reflects the alternatives provided for women in need of healing:
The purpose of this center is primarily to protect young girls from violence, exploitation and trafficking networks, along with help in developing a consistent and holistic character.
The target groups are victims of domestic violence and sexual exploitation, as well as people who suffer from loneliness and depression. At the same time, BOL aims to identify and develop the skills of gifted children. Arts festivals, exhibitions and fairs bring additional incentives to improve people’s self-esteem and hope for the future.
Recognizing the desperate situations faced by vulnerable groups of Moldovan society, BOL opened a humanitarian aid center with the aim of providing assistance to the most vulnerable and needy.

“The road to myself – the road to God”

Again this summer, BOL had opportunity to serve 70 single mothers with their little children who were saved from abortion and abandonment, as well as women who have experienced sexual exploitation and violence. For most, this week is the only peaceful time they will have. As usual, we shared with the women about holistic understanding of themselves. We believe that by discovering ourselves as personalities and creatures of God, we inevitably take the road to Him and, as He is revealed, we understand His intent for our lives.

From July 17-23, a BOL team with 17 young ‘Way to Success’ graduates completed a short mission trip to the Carpathian Mountains. The team was part of the ‘Youth for Tomorrow’ movement, seeking to shape a new generation of young and passionate leaders for the responsibilities of bringing change to Moldova.

The trip’s goal was the formation of young leaders alongside practical service to vulnerable children and people in need. After time spent together in training and gathering information, the mission trip became a perfect opportunity to put these things into practice.
Working and living together gave BOL leaders a great opportunity to convey in deeds the integrity of personal character and servant leadership, and to share with the young team members the principles of applying true faith to life.

Poverty and migration in the last ten years has considerably weakened the institution of the family in Moldova, according to UNICEF in its reports on the situation in the country. Since 1991, about 1.5 million Moldovans have left the country looking for jobs and means of subsistence for them and their families.

A second generation of Moldovans have already left in this search for a better future. While their parents were earning money abroad, children were growing up without parental care, attention or proper family education. According to official statistics, more than 160,000 children were left behind in the last two decades, but unofficial data raises this number to 300,000.
